Superstar Rajinikanth collaborated with filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar for the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The veteran actor played the lead role in this film, which became one of the biggest blockbusters of Tamil cinema ever. Recently, it was reported that Rajinikanth is reuniting with director Nelson for the film's sequel, Jailer 2. The filmmaker, who attended an event recently, gave a major update on the project.
Director Nelson Dilipkumar recently attended the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards ceremony. During this, he finally talked about his next collaboration with Rajinikanth. The filmmaker confirmed that they are indeed teaming up for Jailer 2. Nelson said that the film's script has already been locked and pre-production has begun. The filmmaker confirmed that production banner Sun Pictures will make the big announcement within a month. In such a situation, it is now clear that the official launch of Jailer 2 will take place in October 2024.
In this film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Rajinikanth was seen in the role of retired jailer 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian IPS. Famous superstars of Malayalam and Kannada film industry, Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar had made cameos in the film. Jailer featured star actors like Jackie Shroff, Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Sunil, Mirna Menen, VTV Ganesh, Radin Kingsley and others in supporting roles.
Anirudh Ravichander composed the famous songs and background score for Jailer. Vijay Karthik Kannan was the director of photography. R Nirmal handled the editing work. Talking about Jailer 2, all the lead cast and crew members of the first instalment are expected to return for the sequel. This project is scheduled to start by the end of 2024.
Talking about Rajinikanth's upcoming films, he is busy shooting for Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. This film will be released next year i.e. 2025. Meanwhile, the actor is gearing up for the release of 'Vettaiyan' directed by TJ Gnanavel. This film will be released in theatres on October 10.
