Ananya Panday completed five years in the industry debuting in Student of the Year 2. The actress is now making her OTT digital debut, again being launched by Karan Johar in the digital world with Call Me Bae. Following a laughter and emotion-packed trailer the lead character Bella has drawn comparisons with Kareena Kapoor Khan’s iconic Poo. In the Amazon Prime Video series, Ananya Panday plays Bella Chowdhary aka Bae who owns an extravagant privileged life and is soon downsized to hustler. Ananya recently reacted to the weightage of the comparison with Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Call Me Bae is a light-hearted eight-part series that revolves around the life of Bella Chowdhary, aka Bae, and chronicles her journey as she goes from being an heiress to a hustler. Her glamorous world shatters abruptly when she is disowned by her family, and the scene shifts to the bustling streets of Mumbai, where Bae must now fend for herself. Playing a titular role Ananya portrays a sassy rich girl who struggles to adjust to the hustling crisis. 

Ananya Panday addressed the comparison with Kareena Kapoor Khan in an interview with Hindustan Times, saying, “I don't know if anyone can even come close to what Kareena did with Poo. So I would hope that is my dream, that people love Bella even half as much as they like Poo, but I know growing up how much Poo was an inspiration to me, because even though she may seem like this sassy girl who's just going about life, I think she gave me, as a young girl a, lot of confidence to be myself. The way she used to talk, the way she used to deal with the people around her, the way she didn't let anyone disrespect her, I think she's actually a big icon. In doing that and I also didn't know in how many ways she gave me confidence. So if Bella can do that for so many young girls and boys out there, that'll be a huge achievement.”

Panday admits being a big-time Kareena Kapoor fan claiming that the superstar has left an imprint on her. She even literally dressed up like Poo two years ago.
