Aamir Khan who surprised the audience with his decision to step down from films is set to change the future of theatrical release. The actor known as Mr. Perfectionist has significant plans to bring a shift in the current film industry business. He contemplates to not sell the digital rights of his future films with an aim to prioritize theatrical release.

His vision is to hold movies for 12 weeks or more delaying theatrical release in order to maximize movies theatrical run. The Laal Singh Chaddha actor is reluctant to release movies soon on OTT platforms, according to Pinkvilla reports. With this strategy, his goal is to revive the often overlooked social comedy genre.
A source quoted, “He will sell the digital rights only after the release of the film in the cinema halls. While the digital medium is keeping the box-office clause in the contract, Aamir is willing to sell and value his film based on the audience reception to the content on theatrical release.”
The source further added, “With no logo of digital players on posters and trailers, Aamir aims to keep his communication clear – experience his content only on the big screen. His idea is to go back to the good old days when viewers didn’t have any idea about the satellite premieres.”
Aamir Khan’s produced Laapataa Ladies was a slice-of-life comedy-drama that was showered with immense love and appreciation after it was released on Netflix. The film made a theatrical release but failed to grab the audience to cinema halls which resulted in poor performance at the box office.
On the work front, Aamir Khan is currently working on his project Sitaare Zameen Par which is a remake of the Spanish movie Champions. The film is expected to hit big screen in December this year.
