Vikrant Massey is gearing up for one of his roles in Netflix's upcoming movie Sector 36 which draws inspiration from the notorious Nithari killings in 2006. Directed by Aditya Nimbalkar the film features the talented Deepak Dobriyal as well. The release of the poster generated curiosity, especially regarding Vikrant's striking transformation for the character. With a moustache and an intense expression his appearance marks a significant departure from his usual looks even surprising his wife actress Sheetal Thakur.
During a recent interaction with the media Vikrant shared a funny story about how his wife failed to recognize him at first when she saw the poster in Sector 36. “Many people mentioned how I look unrecognizable, and when I posted it on social media, I asked my wife what she thought. She responded, ‘Bohot accha hai. Kaun hai? (It’s really nice. Who is it?),’” Vikrant said.
The versatile actor praised the director of the film for assisting in shaping his appearance. In addition to sporting a moustache Vikrant donned contact lenses to seamlessly immerse himself in the character. The concept was to portray an everyday look commonly observed, among men in Tier II cities to make his character seem as unremarkable as possible.
In an interview with India Today Vikrant shared his thoughts on his fresh appearance and its impact on his life and career. “When I saw myself in the mirror, I was satisfied, but my wife was truly shocked. She spent 10 minutes zooming in on the photo to confirm it was really me,” he shared, smiling. “I think a lot of people had the same reaction, and I’m happy we pulled it off.”
The actor from the movie 12th Fail also spoke about the difficulties of portraying a killer and how he approached the role mentally. “The character and I are poles apart, but I’ve seen the world, travelled, and met people with this kind of mentality. There were nights when I struggled to sleep, but over the years, I’ve learned to leave my characters on set. It does shake you, but you learn how to switch off,” Vikrant admitted.
Sector 36 is all set to hit Netflix screens on September 13 and viewers can’t wait to witness Vikrant Massey in this gritty and transformative character.
