From waiter to superstar: The remarkable journey of Akshay Kumar as a bollywood actor

On 25 January 1991, Akshay Kumar's first film Saugandh was released in theatres. At that time, hardly anyone would have thought that Akshay would one day become the Khiladi Kumar of Hindi cinema. In a career spanning nearly 33 years, Akshay Kumar needs no introduction. Not only in India, but people in many countries of the world like his films. But Akshay Kumar's coming to Bollywood and becoming an actor was not a part of any plan. It was a matter of fate that he kept moving forward and the path opened up ahead. Akshay Kumar was born on 9 September 1967 in Amritsar in a Punjabi family. His real name is Rajiv Om Bhatia but after coming into the film world, he was named Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar studied in Punjab till 12th and took admission for graduation. But he did not feel like studying so he left studies. Akshay wanted to go to Bangkok to learn martial arts and his father took a loan and sent him there. Akshay joined the class here and also took up the job of a waiter. When he saved some money, he came to Delhi and used to live in Chandni Chowk. In Anupam Kher's show, Akshay Kumar told that 10-15 boys used to live in the room where he lived. There he also worked in artificial jewellery and after that he lived in Kolkata for some time. Later, Akshay moved to Mumbai and worked as a boy in the film industry and also used to give tuitions in martial arts. In 1987, Akshay got a 2-minute role in the film Aaj and then he decided to make a career in acting. In 1991, he got work as a lead actor in the film Saugandh and this was his debut film.

Now, It has been almost 35 years since Akshay Kumar entered Bollywood and there is no going back. In these years, he has worked in about 120 films, some of which are excellent films. Akshay has done many superhit films like 'Tu Khiladi Main Anari', 'Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi', 'Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi', 'Sangharsh', 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', 'Housefull', 'Aitraaz', 'Hera Pheri', 'Phir Hera Pheri', 'Welcome', 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye', 'Awara Pagal Deewana', 'Ajnabee', 'Jolly LLB 2'.

Akshay Kumar's name is included in the list of top 10 actors of India. According to the report of Times of India, Akshay Kumar's net worth in 2024 is said to be around 2500 crores. He ranks fifth in the list of rich actors of India. Akshay Kumar charges 20 to 30 crores for a film. He has his own home production in which many good films have been made. Apart from films and production, Akshay Kumar also earns from advertisements and social media.
