Esha Deol calls her father Dharmendra orthodox for opposing her acting career to marry at 18

Esha Deol daughter of legendary actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini had her own struggles of getting into movies. Despite hailing from a filmy background it wasn’t easy for her to make a career into movies. The actress aimed to walk in the footsteps of her parents and become an actor but to everyone’s surprise, Dharmendra didn’t allow Esha to become an actor instead he wished her to get married by 18.

Getting into films as an actor was a task for Esha. It took her time to convince her father to let her work in movies but eventually, he agreed. Esha calls her father Dharmendra orthodox as he didn’t easily permit her to work in films. In fact, as a typical Indian father, he wanted her to settler with a marriage at a young age. In a recent interview, Esha revealed how she made it to movies.

She said, “He didn’t want me to enter films. He was rightfully orthodox because he was a Punjabi, so he wanted me to get married and settle down at 18 because that was his conditioning, he’s coming from there. The women in his family are brought up that way. But my upbringing was very different in my house, seeing my mom act in films and her dance gave me a direction. It was ingrained inside me that I wanted to do something.”

She further added, “It took a long time to convince him, it was not easy, but today is a different story. There was this high when I first started doing films. I was very involved in everything. But after that, the comparisons started coming up, mom had done 200 films, and it was just my first or second film. I wasn’t prepared for this.”

Esha Deol is now looking forward to make a comeback with a hindi film Main after 2008. She will also make her Telugu debut with Hero Herroine in 2025.
