Box Office report: Stree 2 shatters record, The Buckingham Murders debut strong and Tumbbad enjoys a remarkable re-release

Cinephiles have been enjoying a great time at theaters lately with multiple new releases and old movies running on the big screen. The Buckingham Murders opened in cinemas on 13th September and completed a positive 1st weekend competing with blockbuster Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein. At the same time, Tumbbad made a triumphing return to theaters. Amar Kauhsik’s multi-starrer horror flick is ruling the box office even in its 5th weekend. Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein has a low pace but staying in theaters for so long means the audience has loved the comedy-drama. Let’s take a look at the box office collection of movies in 2nd week of September from dates 13th to 15th.

Stree 2 has outperformed phenomenally at the box office making an impressive business of Rs 535.15 crore. Amar Kaushik's directorial is screaming success at the box office breaking records of top grosser movies.  The film starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana has made a record of highest 5th weekend collection earning Rs 14.50 crore, according to reports. It collected Rs 6.50 crore on Sunday i.e. day 32, while it earned Rs 3 crore on Friday and Rs 5 crore on Saturday. So far the 32-day theatrical run comes to a total of Rs 535.15 crore and now the film eyes to become the highest-grossing Hindi film ever.

The Buckingham Murders starring Kareena Kapoor Khan is a gripping intense suspense thriller. Released on 13th September the film has captivated the audience in its 1st weekend. It opened to a strong response earning Rs 1.15 crore on day 1 and it witnessed growth on day 2 and day 3. Earning Rs 1.75 crore and 2 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively the Hansal Mehta directorial closed 1st weekend at Rs 4.90 crore. 

Tumbbad was re-released in theaters on 13th September and received unprecedented performance. Sohum Shah’s film has minted more money than its actual box office run.  On opening day of re-release the folklore adventurous flick registered Rs 1.50 crore rising high on Saturday and Sunday with earnings of Rs 2.50 crore and 3 crore respectively. In total, it made a business of Rs 7 crore in 3 days while it struggled to earn Rs 13.50 crore when it was released in 2018.

Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein is also running well in its 5th weekend theatrical run and 2nd weekend of September. The comedy-drama has collected Rs 0.25 crore on Friday, 0.45 crore on Saturday, and 0.60 crore on Sunday. Completing 32 days of theatrical run Muddasar Aziz's directorial has made an overall business of Rs 38.60 crore at the Indian box office.
