Pankaj Kapoor breaks silence on his idea of not taking directorial duties after Mausam

Pankaj Kapoor is currently enjoying appreciation for his recently released web show IC 814: The Kandahar Attack streaming on Netflix. He is undoubtedly a brilliant actor but he tried hands-on direction as well creating the film Mausam with his son Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Well, that was his one and last directorial project. The actor has now spilled beans on the reason behind not directing any movie after Mausam.

Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor starrer romance drama Mausam received mixed reviews but failed at the box office and Pankaj Kapoor decided to stop direction and returned to acting. The film released in 2011 failed to impress the audience. Despite having scripts Pankaj Kapoor doesn’t want to approach someone to create a film from scratch rather he opts to act.

In an interview with India Today, Pankaj Kapoor revealed why he didn’t direct movies after Mausam. He said, "Mausam is the only film I wrote and directed. Having said that, I do have scripts, but I cannot go from door-to-door selling them. I do not have that temperament. My temperament is more of an actor."

He further added, "I mean, I don't mind if somebody comes to me and says do you have a script? Can I hear something? I'm ready to narrate it and if the person says yes, I like what you have written, I am ready to go ahead and direct the film. It's not that I don't like directing. I love directing, but I cannot struggle to make a film. So, after 'Mausam', I decided to be more of an actor, and when an opportunity arises, I will direct."

On the work front, Pankaj Kapoor is now gearing up for the release of his upcoming slice-of-life drama Binny And Family. The movie also stars Varun Dhawan’s niece Anjini Dhawan making her debut. Binny And Family is about bridging the generational gap between family members and making their bond strong. Directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy and produced by Balaji Telefilms the movie is set to release on September 20, 2024.
