Masaba Gupta struggled financially during COVID, Couldn’t afford to pay her cook: 'I kept crying'

Masaba Gupta is a well-known fashion designer. She is the daughter of actress Neena Gupta and West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards. In August 2020, she came up with a web series named Masaba Masaba. The story of this series is based on the life of Masaba Gupta, which is written and directed by Sonam Nair. Masaba Gupta's mother Neena Gupta and now her husband Satyendra Mishra have also worked in it.

In a recent interview, Masaba revealed that at one time there was such a shortage of money that she did not have money to pay her cook. In an interview with Faye D'Souza, Masaba said, the year 2020 when Covid came to India was the worst year for me. It was such a bad time for me that I did not have 12 thousand rupees to pay my cook. After this the lockdown happened and we thought it would be removed in two to three days, then it increased by 14 days. My life changed in these 14 days.

She further said, 'I think it was the end of March or the beginning of April when my business head told me that there is no money now. Everything is over. No one is buying anything.' Fashion was at its lowest at that time. At that time I told my artisans to start making masks from the remaining fabric. The actress said, 'I used to cry after every call. But my business head was confident, he used to say that something will definitely work out. We closed our 5 stores in 2 months, some of which were franchises. I think I had about Rs 2 lakh in my bank account. So we thought we would keep it up, keep making masks and keep our focus and reduce our losses.'

Talking about her personal life, Masaba married Satyadeep Mishra for the second time in 2023. After this, in April 2024, she announced her pregnancy. The actress is going to give birth to her first child very soon.
