PVR Cinemas is honouring Kareena Kapoor Khan's impressive journey of 25 years in the film industry by hosting a film festival showcasing her most memorable performances. Among the movies featured is Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara (2006) where Kareena portrays the unforgettable character of Dolly Mishra inspired by Desdemona from William Shakespeare’s classic play Othello.
During the kick-off of the festival, Kareena recounted a funny and honest tale from the screening of her film back in 2006. Feeling self-assured about her acting she had extended invitations to several renowned directors for the preview hoping to receive compliments for her work.
"I had a trial and called everybody, from Mani Ratnam to all the directors, because I was sure I'd done really well in the film," Kareena recalled. "I wanted them to see me as Desdemona. Shakespeare didn’t write many female characters, so Dolly Mishra was very special."
Nonetheless the night didn’t go according to her expectation. “At the interval, everyone came out and said, ‘You were really nice, but Saif was amazing.’ By the end, all I heard was, ‘Where’s Saif?’ I had called everyone to praise me, but suddenly everyone was flocking to Saif!” she giggled.
Kareena recognized the significant role her fellow actors played in influencing her performances. "Actors bounce off each other’s energies. Whether it was Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots, or my roles in Jab We Met and Omkara, these films wouldn’t have been what they are without the amazing actors I worked with."
In the movie Omkara Kareena and Saif shared the screen before they started dating in 2007. They tied the knot in 2012 but their chemistry in the film continues to be a hit among fans. The cast also included Ajay Devgn, Naseeruddin Shah, Bipasha Basu and Konkona Sensharma in roles. While fans celebrate Kareena's successful career she is preparing for her upcoming role in Singham Again. On the other hand Saif Ali Khan will be seen soon in Devara: Part 1.
