Although he has produced several web shows for OTT channels he now steps into directing a project for Netflix.
Karan Johar is gearing up to make his OTT debut as a director for streaming giant Netflix. KJo is all set to direct a big-budget movie after Sanjay Leela Bhansali made Heeramandi. According to reports, Karan Johar is creating a web series and the subject is close to his heart. The show will feature celebrated female stars of Indian Cinema, whose names have been kept under wraps.
The script has been locked and it is set to go on floors in the early months of 2025 and is expected to start streaming in 2026. This Karan Johar show which is now in the casting stage is considered to be Netflix's most ambitious upcoming project. More details of this untitled project are not revealed yet.
A source claimed, "After collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on HeeraMandi, this Karan Johar directorial is the next marquee project in Netflix's repertoire. Karan will be the showrunner for this yet untitled web-series. The script is locked and the vision is to take it on floor in the first quarter of 2025,"
Adding further, "The web-series now begins its casting stage and the idea is to bring together an ensemble of renowned actors. Being a Karan Johar show, the web series is considered to be Netflix's most ambitious upcoming project. It will be shot throughout 2025 and is set to stream in 2026."
Meanwhile, Karan Johar is shooting for the Amazon Prime Video show The Traitors, an official adaptation of an American show of the same name. The filmmaker will host the reality game show. His upcoming project is Jigra in association with Alia Bhatt’s production company Eternal Sunshine Productions. The co-producer Alia herself headlines the movie alongside Vedang Raina. The film with the story of a brother-sister bond is an action thriller directed by Vasan Bala. Jigra is set to open in cinemas on October 11, 2024.
