Rajinikanth reflects on Amitabh Bachchan’s financial loss: “He was unable to pay watchman, Bollywood laughed at him”

Indian Cinema’s two megastars Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth have reunited after 3 decades for the action drama film Vettaiyan. Both are the iconic stars of the film industry and have worked in several movies together back in their days. The last film where they shared the screen together for the last time was 1991 Hum and now their upcoming film marks their collaboration after 33 years. Recently at Vettaiyan grand audio launch in Chennai, Rajinikanth gave an emotional tribute to his long-time friend and veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan. He spoke about Big B’s financial crisis and how overcame it strongly.

According to India Today reports, Rajinikanth spoke about Amitabh Bachchan’s financial struggling days.  “When Amit ji was producing films he broke into a big loss. He was not even able to pay his watchman. His Juhu home came into Public Bidding. The whole Bollywood was laughing at him… The world will just wait for your downfall. In three years, he did all the ads, KBC earned all the money and bought back three homes along with the Juhu home on the same street. He is such an inspiration. He is 82-years-old, and he is working for 10 hours a day.”

He further added, “Amitabh ji's father is a great writer. He could have done anything for the influence he had. But without family influence, he came to a career alone… Once Amitabh ji had a terrible accident. At that time, Indira Gandhi had gone to a conference abroad. When she came to know about the accident, she immediately came to India. Only then did everyone know that Rajiv Gandhi and Amitabh ji had studied together.”

Vettaiyan is a Tamil action drama movie featuring a stellar ensemble cast including Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Dagubbati, Fahadh Faasil, and Manju Warrier. The movie directed by T. J. Gnanavel and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah's Lyca Productions is set to release on October 10, 2024.
