The film became a hit upon re-release compared to its original opening, and it did staggering business at the box office. It has surpassed its original box office collection. While, the OG fans have been looking forward to Tumbbad II, director Rahi Anil Barve announced his exit.
Tumbbad which created a storm in Indian cinema was directed by Rahi Anil Barve but for the sequel he has passed the baton to Adesh Prasad. He issued a statement on his social media handle and wished Sohum Shah and Adesh luck. His tweet read, “For decades, I have worked on this insane trilogy with many producers changing in between. First was the greed of patriarchy (Tumbbad). My personal and much darker version of father, son and the holy ghost. The second deals with the dawn of feminism and holier than holy satipratha — Pahadpangira. Third, the end of this trilogy will be Pakshitirtha. That’s all I have to say for now."
He further added, “I wish Sohum and Aadesh all the best for Tumbbad II. I have no doubts it will be an outstanding success. Following the completion of Gulkanda Tales and Raktabhramand by the end of this year, I plan to start production on Pahadpangira in March 2025.”
Sohum Shah responded to Rahi's X post, “Congratulations mere bhai (my brother) for Gulkanda and Raktabrahmand or jaldi Sai shuru kar de (start soon) pahadpangira. Maza aayega (it'll be fun) (smile emoji).” Thanking Sohum Rahi replied, “I am always there for you. Thanks for everything."
Adesh also replied on Rahi's post, "Thank you, @rahianilbarve . It’s not a secret that I am always cheering for you. My heart fills up with so much love, pride and excitement to see all your dreams finally coming true, all of them so hard-earned and so well-deserved.”
