In a recent interview actress Chhaya Kadam opened up about her feelings upon learning that the film Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as Indias official submission for the 97th Academy Awards. Portraying the character of Manju Mai in Kiran Rao’s directorial debut Kadam conveyed a sense of pride and joy regarding the film’s success, calling it a "moment of pride." She expressed a bit of disappointment that her other film, All We Imagine As Light, didn't make the cut.
Chhaya said, “I am happy for Laapataa Ladies, but at the same time I am feeling a little bad for Payal’s film as well. Now, this decision has been taken by the biggies at Film Federation, so I have no say in it. I would have loved to see both films at the Oscars.”
In a candid chat with India Today Kadam expressed her excitement about Laapataa Ladies, she "would have loved to see both films at the Oscars." Directed by Payal Kapadia, All We Imagine As Light won the Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Kadam expressed his thoughts on the Oscar's choice, saying, "This decision has been taken by the biggies at Film Federation, so I have no say in it. But I do feel a little bad for Payal’s film."
Meanwhile, Kiran Rao shared her happiness through an Instagram post. "I am deeply honoured and beyond delighted that our film Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards," she wrote.
The movie Laapataa Ladies is blending element of comedy and drama, supported by Aamir Khan and starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan. It premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). After its theatrical release on March 1, the film is now getting ready to present India's talent at the Oscars on a global stage.
