Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar submitted for Oscars 2025, Fans call it a ‘Deserving’ Entry

After the buzz about Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies being chosen as India's official submission for the Oscars 2025 it come to light that Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has also been put forward for evaluation at the 97th Academy Awards.

On September 24, 2024 Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande and producer Sandip Singh took to social media to share some exciting news. They unveiled a poster for the biopic Swatantrya Veer Savarkar accompanied by a caption, “Honoured and humbled! Our film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has officially been submitted for the Oscars. Thank you, FILM FEDERATION OF INDIA, for this remarkable appreciation. This journey has been incredible, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way. #WhoKilledHisStory.” The social media update included an exclusive glimpse of Randeep backstage as he posed with the clapboard and the production team.

Fans swiftly took to the comments section to express their excitement about the news. One fan commented, “Damn!!!! Congratulations to the entire SVS team,” while another, “This film totally deserves an Oscar!” A third fan commented, “Finally getting its due,” Numerous individuals commended the submission referring it "deserving entry."

In a recent episode of the BeerBiceps podcast Hooda shared the personal sacrifices he made to bring his project to fruition. The actor turned director disclosed that he tapped into his own resources including earnings from properties his father had bought for him in Mumbai to support the films production. “We had financial difficulties. My father had saved up and bought two or three properties for me in Mumbai. I let go of them and put the money into the movie. I couldn’t stop. This film didn’t have anybody’s support,” Hooda shared.

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is a film that marks Hoodas debut as a director. It tells the story of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar an Indian freedom fighter. In the movie Ankita Lokhande plays Savarkars wife Yamuna Bai and Amit Sial has a role. The film was released in Hindi and Marathi on March 22 and is now available for streaming on Zee5.

As the contenders for the upcoming Oscars 2025 nominations Laapataa Ladies and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar fans are filled with anticipation, hoping these movies will leave an impression on the world stage.
