Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies is definitely going places receiving an overwhelming response after its theatrical release. The satirical comedy-drama has been selected as India’s official entry to the 97th Academy Awards. Gaining global recognition the film is vying for Oscars 2025. The makers Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan along with the cast Sparsh Shrivastava, Nitanshi Goel, and Pratibha Ranta are elated about this achievement.
Aamir Khan who has bankrolled Kiran Rao's directorial shared his excitement for this prominent selection. He said, “We are all so happy with the news. I am so proud of Kiran and her entire team. I would like to thank the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, which chose our film to represent India at the Oscars.”
He thanked the audience and media for their support. He added, “My heartfelt gratitude to our audience, our media, and the entire film fraternity, for all the love and support they have given Laapata Ladies. Thanks to both Jio and Netflix who have been great partners to work with. I am so happy that all our hard-work has paid off. Thank you everyone. Nitanshi Goel who played Phool shared her excitement through her social media account. She posted a picture with Laapataa Ladies director Kiran Rao and captioned it, “Phool english mein bataayein? feeling very happy & grateful that Laapataa Ladies is India's official entry for Oscars 2025! Kalaakand banaane ja rahi hun aap sab ke liye. Aapki Phool”
Ever since the announcement broke, Pratibha Ranta is also thrilled. Speaking to Hindustan Times, she said, "One thing that definitely will connect with people everywhere is the emotions of our film. They will be amplified a lot since it is going to the Oscars. The celebrations have not been stopping since Laapataa Ladies released, something or the other keeps happening. It is just a beautiful feeling every time.”
Laapataa Ladies is a heartwarming story set in the backdrop of an Indian village where connectivity is low. The tale focuses on two brides who are swapped during a midnight journey and how they struggle and manage to get to their destination.
