In a significant milestone for the film industry Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies has been chosen to represent India at the 97th Academy Awards. To commemorate this special moment Aamir Khan Productions released a heartfelt video showcasing the team’s reactions as they experienced the highly praised movie together on the big screen for the first time.
Laapataa Ladies a mix of comedy and drama, marks Kiran Rao’s comeback to directing after a break and has struck a chord with viewers throughout India. The movie not, a commercial success but also well received by critics garnered affection and praise from audiences securing its position as Indias official entry for the Oscars in 2025.
In a touching video shared by Aamir Khan Productions the audience erupts in applause as the names of Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao appear on the screen. The camera captures heartfelt moments among the cast and crew including a poignant scene where actor Ravi Kishan, who portrayed Sub Inspector Shyam Manohar embraces Kiran Rao after the screening. Kishan, with a prolific career spanning more than 750 films confessed that this was the first time he shed tears while watching a film.
In a touching moment the film’s stars Nitanshi Goel portraying Phool Kumari and Pratibha Ranta taking on the role of Jaya Tripathi Singh were spotted tearing up with happiness as they embraced one another in jubilation. Their emotional responses showcased the profound effect the movie had on all those, who were part of it.
Aamir Khan, who was there too, commended Kiran Rao's efforts saying, “When I heard the story, I knew it had great potential, and Kiran did an incredible job both as a director and producer. This is one of the best films we’ve ever made in our production house.” Kiran Rao took a moment to introduce the entire cast to the audience adding a personal touch to the emotional screening.
After hearing about the film being nominated for an Academy Award, Pratibha Ranta, the lead actress, shared her enthusiasm by saying, “It feels surreal that a film as meaningful as Laapataa Ladies will represent India at the Oscars.
