IIFA 2024: At 70, Rekha’s graceful performance steals the show, proving age is just a number

Rekha, a seasoned actor, mesmerized the audience with her enchanting act at the 2024 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards. Her timeless grace left everyone spellbound as she took the stage in a breathtaking Anarkali ensemble. With her elegant dance during a 20-minute performance she showcased her lasting allure and youthful spirit captivating the crowd with every move.

The IIFA Instagram account posted footages of Rekha’s show, describing it “iconic and ever-glowing.” The performer led the crowd down memory lane grooving to songs like Piya Tose Naina Lage Re by Lata Mangeshkar from the film Guide (1965), Mohe Panghat Pe from Mughal e Azam (1960), Lag Jaa Gale from Woh Kaun Thi (1964) and Pardesiya Yeh Sach Hai Piya from Mr. Natwarlal (1979).

Supporters and online users swiftly lauded her acting skills, with a Reddit user expressing their admiration saying, “So graceful! The ultimate diva. Unmatched... even at this age.” Another fan said, “This woman is 70. Oh God, how can she make those moves at that age!”

Rekha made her comeback to the IIFA stage after a gap of more than five years adding an extra touch of magic to the evening. Shah Rukh Khan not only played the role of host at the event but also captivated the crowd with his trademark humour and charisma. He took the stage with Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar to deliver a performance of the popular track Jhoome Jo Pathaan.

The IIFA festivities began on September 27 with IIFA Utsavam celebrating the brilliance of South Indian cinema. The spectacular affair will wrap up on September 29 showcasing IIFA Rocks a night filled with live performances by renowned artists like Honey Singh, Shilpa Rao and Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
