Vedang Raina recalls how Jigra shooting impacted his mental health

Vedang Raina is gearing up for his first theatrical release Jigra after debuting in the Netflix film The Archhies. He shares the screen with Alia Bhatt who plays the titular role of his sister. The action thriller is winning hearts with its powerful trailer. Vedang plays the role of Alia’s brother Ankur Anand who is imprisoned in a foreign jail. The actor recently revealed that he went through mental trauma while shooting the movie.

The 24-year-old actor shared that during one especially intense scene, he chose to put himself in self-imposed solitary confinement for up to eight hours to process his emotions. He shot some emotionally intense scenes which his mental health. In a recent conversation with Mansworld India, he revealed how shooting those specific scenes he underwent a profound emotional experience that left him feeling vulnerable and drained.

He said, “Alia (Bhatt) would be in the scene, hit all the right notes with precision and get out of the character as soon as she hears ‘cut’. But I couldn’t, it is not easy for me to come in and out of character. It did impact my mental health a bit. On the very first day, I was to shoot a rather emotionally intense scene, and I shut myself in my vanity, put the lights off, switched off my phone, and told people to just leave me alone—I sat there listening to my music. Now, as luck would have it, the shot was supposed to happen at 3pm but got delayed and we started rolling around 8 pm. So, I was in that self-imposed solitary confinement for about 8 long hours, and it really started impacting me.”

He further added, “Even when the scenes were done, I couldn’t get out of that zone for 2/3 hours. I realised that it is not going to work like this, and after that I have decided not to put myself through such a thing… it is not worth it and I believe there are other ways to access that emotion, I just need to find which one works for me the best.”

Jigra showcases an emotional heartwarming story of a brother and sister set in an intense gripping narrative. The power-packed action thriller is directed by Vasan Bala and is slated to release in theaters on October 11 in Hindi and Telugu. The film is bankrolled by Alia Bhatt in association with Karan Johar under Eternal Sunshine Productions and Dharma Productions.
