Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video landed in controversy over the plagiarism of the storyline. Producer Sanjay Tiwari has accused director Raaj Shaandilyaa of stealing his film idea registered in 2015. During a recent press conference, Tiwari raised concerns over intellectual property and creative rights. He even discussed the possibility of reaching out to the high court for a ban.
Lies at the center of the dispute is the concept from Sex Hai Toh Life Hai…? Registered by Gulbanu Khan in 2015. Sanjay Tiwari claims that writer-director Raaj and his team lifted the idea from his original work. Raaj Shaandilyaa's team defended that they penned their own concept in October 2015 and titled it Uthal-Poothal, attributing to writers Raaj and Yusuf Ali Khan.
According to the Times of India, Tiwari stated that he registered the idea on August 28, 2015 while Raaj claims to have filed Uthal-Poothal on October 27, 2015. He said, “The idea is the most crucial element. Once it’s there, you can spin a script or screenplay around it, but copying the original idea without permission is a serious issue.”
Highlighting his long-standing presence in the industry, Tiwari said, "I have been in this industry for 20 years, and I hope Raaj investigates his team. I am certain we have plenty of common people.” He further added, “I will consider moving to the High Court to ban the film if necessary, but I don’t want to cause harm to anyone. This is about one person copying an idea, but filmmaking involves hard work from many.”
For the unversed, Raaj Shaandilyaa was previously accused of copying Dream Girl and Janhit Mein Jaari concepts. Even then facing charges he also had police case.
