Jigra: Director Vasan Bala was unhappy when Karan Johar shared draft with Alia Bhatt; Here’s why

Alia Bhatt is set to put screens on fire with her never-seen-before action avatar in Jigra. With poster and trailer release the action thriller became the most awaited and most talked about film. Written and directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra is the story of a sister going extreme to rescue her brother from a foreign jail. The director recently revealed that he was unhappy when Karan Johar shared the draft with Alia Bhatt.

Karan Johar was keen on collaborating with director Vasan Bala after his Monica O My Darling. In an interview with Tried & Refused Productions, Bala shared that he had sent a rough draft to Johar who is producing Jigra but had no idea he would forward it to Alia Bhatt. He was upset when the draft script landed in Alia’s inbox because he wasn’t prepared. Bala stated that he would have shared a polished draft with the actor.

Vasan Bala said, “I had written a very kachha pakka email, stream of consciousness thoughts… sent it to Karan and 6-7 hours later, he called saying that I have already sent it to Alia and I was really not happy with it.” The filmmaker didn’t find it right when KJo shared the draft with Alia as he aimed to do some basic changes.

He further added, “I was like I would have at least done some spell check, grammar check, hygiene, written some very nice hero entry… That email was sent and I asked Karan ‘why did you do this?’ He said ‘no, no this is how it works. Then he said we’ll meet in a couple of days.”

Jigra showcases an emotional heartwarming story of a brother and sister set in an intense gripping narrative. The power-packed action thriller is directed by Vasan Bala and is slated to release in theaters on October 11 in Hindi and Telugu. The film is bankrolled by Alia Bhatt in association with Karan Johar under Eternal Sunshine Productions and Dharma Productions.
