Actor Vedang Raina, who is set to appear in the upcoming action-thriller Jigra, recently opened up about lending his voice to a new version of the classic song "Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka" for the film’s teaser. In an interview with Tried&Refused Productions, Vedang revealed how the opportunity to record the song came unexpectedly during the film's production.
Originally, Vedang was slated to sing a different song for Jigra, but during a dubbing session, director Vasan Bala had a different idea. "Vasan asked me to bring my guitar with me one day while I was dubbing," Vedang recalled. The impromptu session led to the creation of his version of the iconic track. "I checked the lyrics, and there’s a video somewhere of me learning the song. I said, 'Okay, I think I got it, let's do it.' It wasn’t supposed to be a single or a release—it was just for the film’s edit at first."
However, his rendition resonated with the team, and it eventually made its way into the film’s teaser trailer. "At first, we recorded it in a very basic setup, using the same mic for both the guitar and vocals, but later we did a proper studio version, and that’s what made it to the teaser," Vedang explained.
Reflecting on the experience, Vedang admitted he felt some pressure, knowing he was covering a classic originally sung by the legendary Kishore Kumar with music by RD Burman. "It hit me later—I'm doing a rendition of an RD Burman song that Kishore da sang. I'm usually the one who hears renditions and thinks, 'They’ve ruined the original.' But everything happened so quickly, and it felt surreal."
"Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka" was originally featured in the 1971 film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, and has since become a beloved song, particularly among siblings. In Jigra, Vedang plays Ankur, the brother of Alia Bhatt’s character Satya. The film revolves around Satya’s quest to protect her brother, set against the backdrop of a high-stakes prison break.
Jigra is produced by Dharma Productions, in collaboration with Viacom18 Studios and Eternal Sunshine Productions. Directed by Vasan Bala and co-written by Debashish Irengbam, the film is set to hit theatres on October 11.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the release, not only for the action-packed narrative but also for Vedang Raina's heartfelt rendition of the classic song.
