Vivek Agnihotri splits The Delhi Files into two parts, Announces The Bengal Chapter as Independence Day 2025 release

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has revealed that his much-anticipated film The Delhi Files will be released in two parts, with the first installment titled The Bengal Chapter. Agnihotri, known for his earlier films The Kashmir Files and The Vaccine War, announced on Thursday through his social media accounts, confirming the release date of the film as August 15, 2025 coinciding with India's Independence Day celebrations.

In a heartfelt note, Agnihotri explained the decision to split the film into two parts. "After years of exhaustive research, the story of The Delhi Files is too powerful to be contained in one part," he wrote. "We are excited to bring you The Bengal Chapter- the first of two parts, unveiling a significant chapter in our history. Please bless us and mark your calendars: August 15, 2025. #RightToLife," he added.

Originally conceptualized as a single narrative, The Delhi Files will now cover multiple aspects of historical events, with The Bengal Chapter focusing on a particular episode from India's past. Agnihotri also unveiled a new poster for the film, featuring the silhouette of a child raising their hand toward the national emblem, setting the tone for the film's emotionally charged narrative.

The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, Govind Namdev, Babbu Maan, and Palomi Ghosh, among others. Pallavi Joshi, who is also Agnihotri's wife, will co-produce the project.

In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Agnihotri praised Mithun Chakraborty, who recently won the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. "Mithun da is one of the best actors India has produced, not only because of his performances but also due to his understanding of cinema," Agnihotri said. "I wasn't lucky enough to work with him in his younger days when he ruled the single screens, but he was the biggest star at the box office then."

This marks Agnihotri’s third entry in his research-based film series focused on real-life incidents that have left a deep impact on the nation. Following the success of The Kashmir Files, expectations are high for The Delhi Files to similarly capture and resonate with audiences across India.

The Bengal Chapter of The Delhi Files will hit theaters nationwide on August 15, 2025, as one of the year’s most anticipated Independence Day releases.
