Vikramaditya Motane’s latest directorial project CTRL featuring Alia Bhatt and Vihaan Samat is streaming on Netflix. CTRL delves into the realm of the online and real world. The cybercrime thriller revolves around Ananya Panday’s character Nella, who discovers her boyfriend Joe's affair and wishes to erase him from her life using AI only to find him mysteriously disappearing in real life. The director recently discussed his views on potential sequels and revealed that he has a different ending in the first draft.
Motwane revealed that he and his co-writer Avinash Sampath initially had an alternate ending where Nella (played by Ananya Panday) goes for revenge. He noted Nella's vengeful conclusion didn’t fit well with the overall narrative, especially considering the limitations of the screenlife format, which led him to make adjustments, Motwane shared in an interview with Hindustan Times.
He added, “we realised, why would anyone in that right mind stream this or shoot this, what would be the screenlife element? So very quickly, that went out of the window. It has to be organic to the story.”
Vikramaditya Motwane expressed doubt when speaking about a possible sequel where Nella takes revenge, without screenlife format. He said, “Maybe. I don't know. I don't buy into a sequel. I think in Nella's case, she's doomed. She's gone down that rabbit hole again."
In the same interview, on being questioned about exploring a version on the lines of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018), he said “The writing process gives you such a headache because you have to compute all the possibilities.”
CTRL is a cyber thriller film starring Ananya Panday and Vihaan Samat. The film fails to offer anything new where the audience is already exposed to such content. The film promises to be intriguing but isn’t engaging enough to keep the audience hooked. Director Vikramaditya Motane has co-written the film with Avinash Sampath with dialogues by Sumukhi Suresh.
