Jaane Jaan starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Vaarma completed a year impressing the audience with a gripping murder mystery narrative. The film received love and appreciation, especially its lead actor Kareena was lauded for her flawless portrayal of her intense character. Director Suujoy Ghosh recently revealed the reason behind casting her in the titular role.
Jaane Jaan revolves around Maya (played by Kareena) a single mother who is caught in a crime investigation of a murder. The story features how her neighbour Jaideep Ahlawat helps her through the case. The film is intricate and gripping mystery thriller directed by Sujoy Ghosh who in an interview with Mashable shared why he thought she would be the right fit for the role.
Talking about casting Kareena Kapoor Khan in Jaane Jaan, Sujoy said, “When writing a character, I always create a face in my mind. When I was writing the role of a mother who works round the clock to support her child, with no time to prioritise herself, but still looks pretty, I see Kareena. Thankfully, when she agreed to take on the role, half my work was done. From that point on, it was up to her to drive the film forward.”
He further recalled he had a misconception about Kareena Kapoor as people told him that she wouldn’t shoot in Darjeeling. Jaane Jaan's script demanded the film be shot in the hilly region and the actor planned to shoot in Darjeeling. However, he was concerned if the actress would agree to his terms.
He said, “When you see someone publicly, it’s easy to form an opinion about them. Many told me Kareena would never shoot in Darjeeling, but that wasn’t the case. She committed fully to the project. Her dedication to work is commendable.”
Jaane Jaan is adapted from Keigo Higashino’s novel The Devotion of Suspect X. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh the film was released on Netflix last year.
