Nawazuddin Siddiqui criticizes stereotypical Hindi film heroes: ‘It's strange when female characters fall for men without qualities

Renowned actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, known for breaking the mold of traditional Hindi film heroes, recently expressed his dissatisfaction with stereotypical portrayals of male leads in Bollywood. In a candid conversation with The Majlis Show on YouTube, the actor aimed the formulaic tropes in Hindi cinema, particularly the hero's ‘entry shot’ and the lack of depth in male characters.

Nawazuddin voiced his disinterest in the typical hero who, despite having no discernible qualities, wins over the female lead simply because of his looks or ability to defeat multiple goons. “To tell you the truth, I find it very boring,” the actor said, referring to the often-repeated trope of the hero saving the day without any complexity or real-world grounding.

“He will save everyone, save the world, and the girl will fall in love with him even if he has no other quality. In many of these films, we don’t even know what he does for a living, but the girl is still crazy for him because he looks good or he saves her from some goons," Siddiqui added, highlighting the superficiality of such portrayals.

The actor further questioned the logic behind these narratives, saying, "I still don’t understand why the girl is impressed with a guy who beats up 25 people. Is she impressed because he has beaten them up? That’s such a strange thing."

Nawazuddin's critique underscores his preference for more nuanced storytelling, a departure from Bollywood’s more conventional hero roles. His unconventional choice of roles and portrayal of complex characters have been a key part of his success over the years.

On the work front, Nawazuddin was last seen in Adbhut, which premiered directly on Sony Max, further solidifying his reputation as an actor who takes on diverse and challenging roles.
