FIR writer Amit Aryan accuses Salim-Javed of plagiarism in iconic films like 'Sholay' and 'Deewar'

The duo of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar gave many blockbuster films one after the other and these days both are in the news for their documentary 'Angry Young Man'. This duo is counted among the best writers of the industry, who wrote films like 'Sholay' and 'Deewar' for the audience. But FIR writer Amit Aryan has made a big claim about Salim-Javed, he says that both of them have stolen the story of the films. He has called many of their films including 'Sholay' a copy of another film.

Amit Aryan is known for TV serials FIR, 'Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai', 'Lapataganj'. He has claimed that Salim Javed never created anything on his own. He has also called Ramesh Sippy's film 'Sholay' a copy of Raj Khosla's film. He says that Sholay was made by stealing the story of Raj Khosla's film 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh' which starred Asha Parekh, Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna.

In a conversation with Digital Commentary, Amit Aryan said, “I don’t consider Salim and Javed as writers. Those two people whom the whole world salutes have only stolen in their entire life. Salim and Javed are copy writers, not writers.” He further said, “Sholay shows a man whose hands were chopped off, whose family was also killed by a dacoit and he was trying to take revenge through other people.”

Amit Aryan said, “In the film ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, Vinod Khanna played the role of a dacoit named Jabbar Singh who became Gabbar in ‘Sholay’. Actor Jayant played the role of a retired soldier in Khosla’s film, whose one hand was cut off. Sholay showed a retired police officer, whose both hands were cut off. In ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, Jayant’s character used to ask Dharmendra to take revenge, who first refuses and then agrees. Amitabh Bachchan’s character was also added to Dharmendra’s character in ‘Sholay’.”

Apart from this, Aryan also pointed out common things between V Shantaram's films 'Do Aankhen Barah Haath' and 'Sholay'. He said every scene of 'Sholay' was taken from that film. He further said that Salim-Javed's 'Deewar' (1975), directed by Yash Chopra and starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Nirupa Roy, was copied from Nitin Bose's 'Ganga Jamuna' (1961), starring Dilip Kumar and Vaijayanti Mala. Aryan said that both the films are the story of two brothers, one of whom is a criminal and the other a policeman.

Aryan said that Salim-Javed copied their own work along with the other's work. He said, "They copied from their own work as well. 'Shakti' (1982), directed by Ramesh Sippy and starring Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, has a police officer whose son becomes a criminal. In the climax, the father says, 'Vijay, stop, otherwise I will shoot.'" Amit Aryan described Salim and Javed as good businessmen and salesmen. He said, "Salim and Javed are good businessmen and salesmen, they knew how to sell something and how to narrate it well.”
