Javed Akhtar reveals he walked out of Karan Johar’s 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' After writing a song: 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’

Screenwriter and Lyricist Javed Akhtar has given many great songs to Indian cinema. Recently, he said that he left Karan Johar's very popular film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai after writing a song for the film. Javed Akhtar also told the story when he said no to the film. Also shared the reason behind leaving this film.

While talking on Sapan Verma's YouTube channel, Javed Akhtar said that he left 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' because of its name. Javed did not like the name of Karan's film. So he said no to the film. However, he regrets his decision now. Javed says - ''I consider the 80s to be the darkest decade of Hindi cinema. At that time people were either making double meaning songs, or writing songs that had no meaning at all. At that time, I did not want to work on such films, or write songs that had any wrong or obscene meaning. Because of this idea, I left 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'.'

Javed Akhtar says- ''I had written the first song for that film. But when Karan Johar decided the name of the film, I refused to work in the film. I thought, what kind of a name is this, 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'...what happens? But now I regret my decision, but at that time I left this film.''

Director Karan Johar has also talked about this once. In an old interview given to a YouTube channel named Gold House, Karan Johar had said, ''Javed sahab had a problem with the title of the film 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. There was a creative difference between us. He had said at that time that I cannot write songs for a film with this title. I told him that I want to work with him but he said that we will work together for some other film. After the release of the film, he called me and said that his decision was wrong.''

Later Karan Johar and Javed Akhtar worked together on the 2003 film 'Kal Ho Na Ho'. On the other hand, Jatin-Lalit gave music to 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. Lyrics were written by Sameer. This film became a superhit film of its time. Its album also became the best-selling soundtrack of that year. Now this film has become a cult classic Hindi film.
