Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are adorable couples in Bollywood. Both belonging to different religions celebrate Hindu and Muslim festivals together. Their interfaith marriage sparked discussions and was not even accepted by Gauri’s father. Despite her family not being happy with her union she chose to stand strong with the love of her life when SRK was not even a star. As Gauri Khan celebrates her 54th birthday, revisiting her idea of not choosing to convert and respect his religion.
Appearing in the first season of Koffee with Karan, Gauri Khan shared that she respects Shah Rukh Khan’s Muslim religion but won’t convert. Although Gauri Chibber has accepted his last name, Khan. In conversation with Karan Johar, Gauri had said, “Aryan [Khan] is so into Shah Rukh, that he would follow his religion I feel. He will always say, ‘I am a Muslim.’ And when he tells this to my mother, she gets, ‘What do you mean?’ She's dealing with it and it is true.”
She further added, "There is a balance. I respect Shah Rukh’s religion but that doesn’t mean that I would convert and become a Muslim. I don’t believe in that. I think everybody is an individual and follows their religion. But, obviously there should be no disrespect. Like Shah Rukh would not disrespect my religion as well.”
The couple has blended two different cultures beautifully and raised their kids as Indians. In a conversation with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla on their show First Ladies, Gauri shared, “During Diwali, I lead the pooja, and the family follows. On Eid, Shah Rukh leads, and we follow.”
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan tied the knot on October 25, 1991. They are tagged as the most idol couple in B’town. From their 33 years of marriage, they have three children - Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan, and AbRam Khan.
