Sanjay Leela Bhansali clarifies if Love & War is a remake of Raj Kapoor’s Sangam

After making a big OTT debut Heermandi, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is gearing up for his ambitious project Love & War featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. Ever since the film was announced rumours had it that the film is a remake of 1964 film Sangam starring Vyjayanthimala and Raj Kapoor. Bhansali has now refuted rumors of Love & War being a re-working of Sangam. Though he didn’t reveal many details about the project but gave clarification on buzz.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali believes remakes of iconic movies like Sholay and Mother India should not be made as he addressed rumours of Sangam remake is Love & War. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, shared that Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is like Sangam but not Love & War.

SLB said, "Not at all. I love Sangam, I have watched it. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is also like Sangam. I tried to make Aishwarya Rai into Vyjayanthimala from Sangam...It's not Sangam at all, with all my love for Raj Kapoor. You never re-make a great man, a great director's classic. How do you re-make Mughal-E-Azam or Sangam or Pakeezah. Heeramandi is a tribute to Pakeezah, it's my love for Kamal Amrohi."

Talking about Love & War, he added, "It's a film that I'm very very excited about. It's a very very special film, now not in the period. There are no pillars, no costumes, no more horses. It's contemporary, it's different. The music is different, I'm enjoying doing it. I have got wonderful actors...It's a difficult film for me, so I'll take a little time to make it properly, carefully."
Love & War an epic saga is expected to be a humongous hit coming from ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The casting trio of Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal promises an exciting big-screen cinematic experience. The love saga is expected to go on floors in October 2024.
