The veteran actress Rekha is one of the most stunning beauties in Indian cinema. On her 70th birthday here’s revisiting how she got into acting while this was never her initial career plan. Despite acting was not her dream she completed a career spanning over 40 years. Surprisingly all Rekha wanted was a happy married life, but she accepted the challenges life threw at her.
Unfortunately, Rekha was forced to get into the film business due to a difficult family situation at home. Her relationship with her father Gemini Ganesan, a well-known South actor, was complicated after he left his family at an early age. When she grew up Rekha had to take charge of finances at home and was suggested to get into acting like her mother Pushpavalli and father.
In an old interview with Simi Grewal she said, “Financially, I had to take charge. Things were difficult at home. There was a shortage of money and six children to look after. My mother just said, 'You have to do this.’"
When questioned if her young self wanted to be a star, she revealed acting was never her dream rather she wished to get married and have children. She admitted, "No, never! At that time, all I wanted was to get married and to be loved and to spend the rest of my life with someone who truly cared for me, and have lots of children."
Despite her unexpected journey into acting she became one of Indian cinema's most iconic figures. Her dedication and resilience not only propelled her to stardom but also inspired countless others facing challenges in their lives. Rekha has not only embraced her role in the film industry but has also redefined what it means to be a successful woman in a challenging profession.
