Kangana Ranaut is known for her big mouth and doesn’t hesitate to make her thoughts vocal, which also pulls her into controversies. She has often sparked fuss with several Bollywood celebs including Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar. She has once again targeted Alia through a cryptic post as her film Jigra releases. The actress shared her views on why 'women-centric cinema' fails at the box office and talked about putting an end to it.
While Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is awaiting certification clearance from CBFC he has indirectly pointed to Jigra release. She believes women-centric movies don’t work in cinema when people aim to destroy it. Taking to her Instagram story, she wrote, “When you destroy women-centric films and make sure that they don't work, they don't work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks.”
However, Kangana Ranaut didn’t take any names, but her comment is directed towards Alia Bhatt’s Jigra. Since that is a recently released women-centric film and it had a modest opening at the box office.
Jigra is a heartwarming emotional story set against an action thriller narrative. Alia Bhatt plays a strong-witted gutsy sister who goes extreme even crossing borders and breaking into prison to rescue her brother imprisoned in a foreign jail. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film is co-produced by Alia herself under Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The film opened in cinemas on October 11.
On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency suffered challenges before theatrical release. The film on the dark phase of the 1977 Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi received criticism and ban calls leading to being stalled at CBFC for certification. The makers are now working on cuts and modifications suggested by the censor board. Emergency is headlined, directed, and produced by Kangana Ranaut herself. The film was supposed to hit theaters on September 6, but now makers await the release.
