Mallika Sherawat reveals industry backlash after Murder success, Says “I went crying to Mahesh Bhatt”

Mallika Sherawat has returned to movies with Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka woh Wala Video. She became a well-known name in the industry after the success of Murder. However, she faced some challenges that came as a consequence of her bold career choice. The actress now recalled many contemporary female actors were condescending to her face. She opened up on the backlash she faced and shared that she cherished financial independence over fame.

In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia for his podcast, Mallika Sherawat spoke about the tough time she went through in her initial days. When questioned how her peers treated, she said, “They were very condescending to me on my face. There are a few very big actresses, whose name I won’t take, but they were all condescending to me on my face. I went crying to Mahesh Bhatt because he was my mentor.”

She further recalled nasty comments. “They would say, ‘So many sl*ts in Bollywood, one more’.” She added, “There was a lot of sl*t-shaming. They wanted me to feel ashamed of myself and the bold scenes I did. In a way, they wanted me to feel ashamed of the success of Murder.”

She also recalled how men judged her in real. She added, “One of the negative things happened to me after all this is that men thought, ‘If she can do such bold scenes on-screen, why will she object to come with us?’ I had to deal with this a lot. People forget that your personal life and professional life are two different things. It was a big hurdle for me and it still is.”

Mallika Sherawat was recently featured in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video for a small role. She already caught everyone's attention in the trailer and captivated the audience with her role in the movie. The film directed by Raaj Shaandaliyaa and produced by TSeries is now running in theaters from October 11.
