Vashu Bhagnani accuses Netflix’s Head of Hindi Film Licensing Vibha Chopra of ₹250 Crore fraud; EOW launches investigation

Indian film producer Vashu Bhangnani of Pooja Entertainment  has accused Netflix’s head of Hindi Film Licensing of cheating him out of Rs 250 crore. In April, Bhagnani filed a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police. Following this, the EOW began an initial investigation, On Monday, September 7, Vibha Chopra, the head of Hindi Film Licensing at Netflix, gave her statement for 6 hours, EOW officers questioned her again for about 3 hours.

As per Free Press Journal reports, according to EOW officials, during the second round of questioning, Vibha Chopra provided soft copies of important documents. It is alleged that changes were made to Vashu Bhagnani’s contract with Netflix in 2022, leading to a delay in his payments. A detailed investigation is ongoing, and Vibha Chopra is expected to be called in for further questioning.

Police sources revealed that Bhagnani has signed a contract with Netflix in September 2022 to produce three films. Vibha Chopra in her statement, claimed that she took on the role of Head of Hindi Film Licensing at Netflix in October 2023. She returned for questioning on Tuesday from 3 PM to 6 PM.

A Netflix spokesperson said, “These claims are completely unfounded -- indeed, it's Pooja entertainment that owes Netflix money. We have a strong track record of partnership with the Indian creative community and are working with the authorities to resolve this dispute.”
