Alia said that while working on this film, she was physically and mentally isolated from the world. She said, "During the shoot, I was away from home for a long time and was working on the streets. This process physically isolated me from the world. Emotionally also, I had to calm down for some time because the kind of story I was presenting was very intense."
Alia further said that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali believes that no actor is the same after working in his films. Alia admitted that after doing the film Gangubai Kathiawadi she was not the same as she was before. She said, "This film has taught me a lot and brought depth to my acting."
While talking about her film Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia said that she has been awarded the National Film Award for her performance and character in this film. It proved to be an important milestone for her career.
