Rajkummar Rao shares how he struggled to hold back tears on the "Newton" set after his mother's last rites

Rajkummar Rao recently shared the tragic experience of his mother's death in a podcast. His mother passed away when he was shooting for his film "Newton". He told me that his mother was only 54 years old, so this news was a big shock for him. During the shooting, when he got this information, he first returned to the set, thinking that he would handle himself. But when he returned, tears were not stopping from his eyes.

In Sandeep Bhatia's podcast "Mauj Masti", Rajkummar said that during the shooting he was sitting in the boot for a scene. When he finished shooting and was walking towards the gate, a person came towards him quickly. Seeing the worry on the person's face, he had a bad apprehension. When the person reached him, he said that his fiancée, Patralekha, wanted to talk to him. At the same time, Rajkummar realised that something very wrong had happened.

Patralekha gave him the news of his mother's death, and at that moment he felt as if his world had shattered. "Newton" was a low-budget film, and Rajkummar was worried that if he left, the production would suffer. He told the production team that he would return in a day, but the filmmakers asked him to take some time. Nevertheless, he decided to return to the set after the funeral.

Rajkummar said that when he reached the set, he thought he would be able to recover, but he could not stop himself. He said, "I thought I was strong, but I broke down. It was heart-wrenching." His best friend, Anees, a sound designer, was present on the set to help him and gave him a lot of support. Rajkummar also regretted that he could not spend much time with his parents.
