Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam to collaborate? Suhasini Mani Ratnam clears off rumours

Earlier reports were rife that Indian cinema's two iconic figures Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam would collaborate for a project. This sparked excitement among the fans of the legendary filmmaker and the actor as this would be their reunion after 33 years. However, the director’s wife Suhasini Mani Ratnam has addressed the reports and cleared the air around the speculations.

In a recent interview with News18, Mani Ratnam’s wife Suhasini dismissed the rumours and humorously noted that neither Rajinikanth nor the director was aware of any film collaboration. She described the rumours as baseless. She said, "I don’t think even Rajinikanth and Mani know about it (laughs). It’s only people who’re writing about it.”

Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam last collaborated with Rajinikanth in 1991 film Thalapathi. Fans have been eager to witness their charm and magic once again on silver screen after 3 decades. However, the rumoured project is not happening. During the audio launch of the Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1, Rajinikanth present as a chief guest shared his experience of working with him in their last film.

He said "It was tough to act in the film. As an actor, I had a set of stock expressions. For love, I had some and similarly some for basic emotions. Mani didn’t accept any. I remember him telling me how to feel. I asked what I should feel."

On the work front, Rajinikanth’s recent film Vettaiyan co-starring Amitabh Bachchan is running in theaters. His next film is an action thriller Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and slated to release in theaters next year 2025.
