Shraddha Kapoor has been riding high on the success of horror comedy Stree 2. The actress has garnered a lot of love and appreciation for the movie. The actress who is the most followed Indian actor on Instagram created a relatable image over her career spanning 14 years through her movies and social media profile. At a recent event, Kapoor opened up about pay parity, and how she stays to the roots. Reflecting on that she even revealed how his father Shakti Kapoor started from scratch.
Pay parity has been the subject of discussion in the Hindi film industry for a long time now. Many actors have expressed their disappointment over the huge pay difference between male and female actors. Now Shraddha Kapoor has also addressed the subject and how remuneration for stars has evolved in recent times. She accepted the fact that pay parity exists but believes it’s all producer's call.
Shraddha reflecting on her debut film Teen Patti (2010) said, “I am earning more today than I was 14 years ago. But, there is a pay parity, which I also feel like it is changing. Whatever is going to work positively in the making of a film, the way it is supposed to be made, those calls the producers will have to take. It’s their vision. I feel like there are a few who have long-term vision and really know where the industry is headed. There is no uniform way which everybody is following.”
She also shared how her father Shakti Kapoor inspired her to stay independent, grounded, and self-made despite hailing from a filmy background. She recalled her dad’s struggles, “My dad has come from a non-filmy family. His stories are so incredible. He came from Delhi. My grandfather had a textile store and he told my dad, ‘You work in Delhi and you do whatever you want’. My dad had joined a travel agency, but he wanted to act. He hopped on to a train and came to Bombay. Those stories make me want to keep my head down, because my dad really made it from scratch and made it on his own.”
Shakti Kapoor is a well-known name in the industry who has appeared in several movies back in 80s and 90s. He is a versatile actor adapting dark villain roles at the same time delivering comedy roles. Shraddha Kapoor under her father’s guidance made a career in Bollywood on her own without any support.
