With Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again and Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 releasing for Diwali, one thing is clear – Bollywood is not shy of taking popular franchises that captivated audiences for years and giving them a new spin as long as they feature memorable characters for whom the fans keep coming back. Here’s a look at some other successful franchises:

Dhoom

Dhoom introduced viewers to high-speed heists and charismatic thieves through adrenaline-pumping action. Dhoom, an Indian caper action film series produced by Yash Raj Films, is a successful franchise with actors like John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan playing villains in the subsequent installments. Starting in 2004, the franchise was extended with the success of the second and third chapters in 2006 and 2013. Thrilling action sequences and unforgettable bike chases have got the audiences salivating for Dhoom 4. 

Krrish

Indian cinema received its own superhero in the Krrish franchise that started in 2003 with Koi… Mil Gaya. The film series blended science fiction with superhero and captivated the Hindi audience. Its spectacular visual effects, unique storyline, and Hrithik Roshan’s portrayal as superhero Krrish played a major factor in the film becoming a hit franchise.  

Golmaal

Rohit Shetty's Golmaal series by delivering a rollercoaster ride of laughter, entertained audiences for over a decade. Led by Ajay Devgn, this franchise is known for its absurd yet hilarious humor, making it a beloved household name that proves sometimes all you need is a good laugh.

Housefull

Sajid Khan's Housefull franchise has brought a refreshing wave of humour to Bollywood. With its blend of slapstick comedy, a star-studded cast, and quirky storylines, this series has become a box-office hit, showcasing the enduring appeal of comedy in Indian cinema. Starting in 2010 and followed by four installments, the makers are set for Housefull 5 and fans can’t wait for the next package of humour. 

Tiger

In the realm of Bollywood’s Spy Universe, Tiger has been making significant strides. Starting with Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and Tiger 3 (2022) Salman Khan's thrillers set a high standard in exposing Indian audiences to the espionage genre.
