Ranveer Singh pinned clips to feel the pain, later collapsed while shooting Lootera, reveals  Vikramaditya Motwane

Ranveer Singh's dedication and craft in filmmaking is widely known. He calls himself a raw actor and to get into the skin of an actor he would go to extremes. He would even hurt himself to make the acting look convincing. One true example of this fact is from the sets of Lootera when he pinned clips near his waist to feel the pain. Director Vikramaditya Motwane recently recalled the incident and revealed that it was a difficult shoot when Singh collapsed on the set.

In an interview with Mukesh Chhabra with Mashable India, Lootera director Vikramaditya Motwane talked about the challenging shoot of the 2013 romance drama which also starred Sonakshi Sinha. They had shot the film in Dalhousie and in one scene Ranveer had to bear the pain of a bullet so he hurt himself to give life to the setting and the character.

Vikramaditya said, “We came to Dalhousie in March. We shot for two days and Ranveer hurt his back. He said he will be fine. The next day, we shot a scene where he takes out the bullet from his waist… now Ranveer has worked himself up to a frenzy. That I want to feel the pain here and want to emote it on screen etc. He asked me, ‘Sir what do I put here? I want to feel the pain.’ I said just act.”

He further added, “So what he did was take some black paper clips and pinned them near the waist and then started running up and down the mountain to get into the moment because he has been shot and he has to come in sweating. He came then we shot the entire scene. By the end of the day when we had shot the entire thing, he finally takes out that clips. He has been feeling all that pain over there. He did not realize that his back was in spasm. He felt the pain here, but not on his back. He just collapsed and had to be taken out. We had to chopper him out on the next day from Dalhousie, so that schedule got cancelled.”

On the work front, Vikramaditya Motwane recently released a crime thriller CTRL, starring Ananya Panday, on Netflix. Ranveer Singh is gearing up for the biggest theatrical release of the year - Singham Again. Rohit Shetty cop universe installment will hit theaters this Diwali on November 1.
