Bobby Deol is back. And better than ever. Making waves as a formidable baddie in the upcoming Tamil fantasy action film Kanguva releasing on November 14. Following his standout performance as the mute antagonist Abrar in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal last December, the 55-year-old actor has embraced villainous roles and is spreading his wings across to the South Indian film industry. Bobby makes his Tamil debut in Kanguva, joined by Disha Patani who is also venturing into Tamil cinema for the first time.
In Kanguva, directed by Siva, Bobby plays a menacing villain opposite Suriya, who takes on a daring double role. The film has a prehistoric backdrop and is filled with action and intrigue. Bobby’s decision to join this project stemmed from his admiration for Suriya, whose talent he describes as “larger-than-life”. In interviews, he has expressed how inspiring it is to work alongside such a dynamic actor, stating, “Suriya’s energy and skill are simply amazing.”
Bobby’s career revival has been remarkable. "I feel very blessed. I’m living a dream,” he said, about his second innings post Animal. And after Kanguva, Bobby is charged to continue playing negative roles. He has more exciting projects lined up. Including Thalapathy 69 alongside Tamil superstar Vijay whom he faces in a gripping battle of good versus evil. He is also set to star in Nandamuri Balakrishna’s NBK109 as the main antagonist and is working on a historical drama titled Hari Hara Veera Mallu inspired by real events.
Meanwhile, the anticipation for Kanguva is palpable, with early shows slated for 4 am in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka next week Friday. Producer Gnanavel Raja has already announced a sequel for 2027 thereby giving Bobby Deol’s foray into South cinema a further shot in the arm.
