The Uttarakhand government is considering making a strict law to protect agricultural land in the state, so that outsiders cannot acquire this land. Meanwhile, the name of Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee is also in the news. He is the second prominent person whose property in Almora is being investigated. Earlier, a similar investigation was done regarding the property of UP leader Raja Bhaiya's wife.
Manoj Bajpayee had bought land worth crores of rupees in Lamgara block of Almora district in 2021. But now it has come to light that the purchase of this land was not done as per the standards of land law of Uttarakhand. In this case, the District Magistrate said that if anyone intends to buy land, he will have to take permission from the state government and the court first. Even before this, cases of violation of law in land purchase have come to the fore in Uttarakhand. For example, a land purchase by an industrialist in the Chitai area was also found to be in violation of the law, after which the administration cancelled the purchase of that land and confiscated the land.
Almora District Magistrate Alok Pandey said that Manoj Bajpayee's land purchase and other similar cases are under investigation. In the last few weeks, the Uttarakhand government has launched a campaign to strictly enforce land use laws in environmentally sensitive areas. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had issued orders on September 27 to strictly follow land laws in the state. Under these orders, outsiders outside the municipal limits will not be allowed to buy more than 250 square metres of land if they do not have permission from the state government.
Manoj Bajpayee had purchased about 15 acres (about 2,160 square feet) of land in 2021 with the aim of setting up a meditation and yoga centre. However, locals are expressing concern that no construction work has been done on this land so far, and questions are being raised whether this may be considered as a violation of land law. The Uttarakhand government is trying to ensure that Manoj Bajpayee's property purchase is in accordance with the local land rules. Considering the increasing number of such cases in the state and the need to take strict measures for land conservation, this case stands at a crucial juncture for the state.
