Kartik Aaryan, riding the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, is keen on taking the lead in getting back the popular Aashiqui franchise back on track. The third part of the musical romantic drama ran through some trouble after it was announced in 2022 with Kartik and Tripti Dimri in the lead when the producers, Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Mukesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films, fell apart. T-Series then said it would produce the film independently with Anurag Basu directing it and title it Tu Aashiqui Hai. So far so good. But Kartik, who has realised that franchises work in Bollywood after his own success with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (and Singham Again, Stree 2), is now keen that the film gets back on track as Aashiqui 3. Which is what it was meant to originally be. The first two films, Aashiqui in 1990 with Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal and Aashiqui 2 in 2013 with Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, were blockbusters. And Kartik feels there’s no need to reinvent the wheel with Tu Aashiqui Hai when Aashiqui 3 would work better. He has left it to Bhushan Kumar to sort out difference with Mukesh Bhatt.
