Vicky Kaushal to play Lord Parashuram in Dinesh Vijan and Laxman Utekar’s mythological epic

Vicky Kaushal is eyeing a mythological character again. PeepingMoon.com has learned that the Sam Bahadur actor is collaborating with Laxman Utekar and Dinesh Vijan for a massive-scale mythological epic on Lord Parashuram.

The ambitious project is at the nascent stage at this moment, but plans are underway to take it on floors by the end of 2025, targeting a mega theatrical release in 2027. Laxman, who will direct this film, has locked a basic storyline and will start working on the screenplay under the supervision of Vijan once their highly anticipated historical action drama, Chhaava, also starring Vicky in the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, releases in theatres next year.

“Vicky, Laxman, and Dinesh first discussed this Parashuram project during the shooting of Chhaava. What was just an exchange of creative ideas at first eventually turned into a collaborative process when they seriously started developing it. Vijan aims to bet on high-scale projects going forward, and this Parashuram project perfectly aligns with his broader goals for Maddock Films. Plus, Chhaava has shaped up very well, which also boosted Vijan’s confidence to support this grand concept,” an industry source close to the development told us.

This project comes into development years after Vicky’s ambitious Ashwatthama project was abandoned. Uri: The Surgical Strike director Aditya Dhar was directing this mythological sci-fi that was eventually shelved after years of preparation due to budgetary constraints. The Dinesh Vijan production will finally allow Vicky to step into a mythological role, portraying Lord Parashuram with full intensity and dedication.

Vicky is expected to head this project after completing Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Love and War with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The Bhansali film went on floors last week in Mumbai and is expected to be wrapped up by mid-2025. In the meantime, Vicky’s forthcoming Chhaava has been postponed from the December 6 release and will now most likely hit cinemas in 2025. The makers are considering several dates, such as December 20, January 10, and February 21, for its release, but the final release date is yet to be locked.
