Krushna Abhishek faces backlash for mocking Rabindranath Tagore; Poet srijato demands apology and episode edit

Comedian-actor Krushna Abhishek has been caught in a controversy. He has been accused of mocking Rabindranath Tagore on 'The Great Indian Kapil Show'. On this matter, Bengali poet Srijato Bandopadhyay has written a long note opposing Krushna's statement, in which he has accused Krushna of insulting Tagore.

Srijato stressed in his post that there is a clear line between comedy and mockery. He wrote, "There is a thin line between comedy and mockery, and crossing it can prove to be risky. Often people do not pay attention to whom they are mocking." He further wrote, "Krushna Abhishek's dialogue with the song 'Ekla Chalo Re' crossed all the limits of respect and decency. At least in my eyes. I am sure he would never have the guts to crack such vulgar jokes about Ghalib, Kabir or Premchand. The show would be forced to shut down the next day. Bengalis have become accustomed to such stereotypical jokes, and probably that is why they tolerate it. And all this happened in front of a Bengali actress Kajol, who sat and laughed at the whole drama."

Srijato demanded a public apology from the show. He said, "I don't know who will support me, but I am protesting against The Great Indian Kapil Show and demanding a public apology. Also, I demand that that part of the episode be re-edited. Nowadays, it doesn't take more than seven seconds for news to spread. I have politely kept a limit of seven days. And yes, I am writing this post after consulting a good lawyer in the relevant field."

After this statement of Srijato, the controversy over the show and Krishna Abhishek has increased
