DDLJ: Aditya Chopra wanted to fire Saroj Khan from the film, Furious at father Yash Chopra's interference

Aditya Chopra, who has made his mark as a film producer-director, is considered a very mysterious and less known person in his personal life. He stays away from public life and always avoids the media. Aditya Chopra started his career as a director with the 1995 film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ). During this film, his way of working was special, in which he appeared very confident, but sometimes his behavior was also dictatorial.

During the production of the film, there was an incident when Aditya Chopra had decided to remove famous choreographer Saroj Khan from the film. Recently, in a video related to the making of this film on the YouTube channel of Yash Raj Films, Saroj Khan recalled that incident. Saroj Khan said that one day she reached the set late and Aditya had decided to remove her from the film. That was the day when a song of Kajol was to be shot, in which Kajol was seen in a black gown and Shahrukh Khan in a black suit. Aditya was shouting and telling his father, "I am going to fire Saroj ji." But Saroj ji came on time and calmed Aditya's anger and since then she started coming on the set on time.

Aditya Chopra's brother Uday Chopra also shared this experience. He said that no one knew what was going on in Aditya's mind. Saroj ji and the rest of the technical staff members were explaining to Aditya that what he was doing could be wrong, but Aditya remained firm on his thinking and said, "I will do what I think is right." He also said that Aditya's thoughts about some parts of the climax of the film were different from his father and the technical team, but still he did not let anyone influence his thinking. Shahrukh Khan also talked about the confidence of Aditya Chopra. He said, "Aditya was very clear that whatever he wanted to do, he would do it with his thoughts and heart. Some senior members were explaining to him that this should be done, but Aditya believed that if he was wrong, he wanted to understand his mistakes himself." This shows Aditya Chopra's strong will and his dedication towards the film.

It is clear from this incident that Aditya Chopra made his mark as a strong director in his very first attempt, and he remained firm on his point, ignoring any external pressure or advice. This is the reason why ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ is still considered one of the biggest and memorable films of Indian cinema.
