A Mumbai court has dismissed a defamation case filed against lyricist Javed Akhtar for making alleged objectionable remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Javed Akhtar has been acquitted in the case.
During a television interview in 2021, Javed Akhtar had drawn parallels between the Taliban and Hindu militants, especially after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. Advocate Santosh Dubey withdrew the petition from the magistrate on this matter. The complainant said that the matter has been resolved in mediation between the two parties, so now he does not want to take action against the accused Javed Akhtar.
In the year 2021, Javed Akhtar compared the RSS to the Taliban during a TV interview. After this, the lawyer in this case had sent a notice, demanding an apology from Javed Akhtar, otherwise a damage of Rs 100 crore was demanded. Javed Akhtar had challenged the case in the Mumbai Sessions Court.
The case, which was going on in the Mulund area of Mumbai, has now been withdrawn. Lawyer Santosh Dubey said that in October 2021, a complaint was filed against Javed Akhtar in the Magistrate Court under sections 499 (defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code. After the case was withdrawn, the court acquitted Javed Akhtar. This case is now over and Javed Akhtar was not found guilty in this legal process.
