We are glad that India’s javelin superstar and Olympic double medalist Neeraj Chopra himself has urged restraint on the breathless enthusiasm with which Bollywood has been planning a biopic on him. Bollywood loves to make biopics on sporting heroes. Never mind that most of them, like Chandu Champion, Maidaan, and Mr. and Mrs. Mahi this year did not work. But Neeraj is only 26. And when pressed by the indefatigable media about which actor he would like to see playing him in a biopic, impulsively he replied “Randeep Hooda”. For no other reason but that the Bollywood actor, who was seen this year in the historical biopic Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, is from Haryana like himself! Now Neeraj has probably had second thoughts. When asked again this week, he replied, “There is plenty of time for my retirement and biopic to come. Right now, I want to be involved with the sport. I will think about a biopic later.”
