Tharki’ is a quirky romance with R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh

Almost ten years after Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), R. Madhavan is making a comeback to the rom-com genre with a film named Tharki that is being produced for Netflix by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. It is supposed to be a lighthearted, July-October romance, and playing the love angle opposite the Tamil hero now firmly entrenched in Bollywood will be the vivacious Fatima Sana Shaikh. They make an unusual pairing, agreed. But Vivek Soni, who previously directed the Sanya Malhotra-Abhimanyu Dassan-starrer Meenakshi Sundareshwar, is known to push the bar when casting for a film. Madhavan plays a mid-40s virgin and Fatima an early 30s woman about town. They meet on a dating app. Tharki sounds quirky and contemporary and for Madhavan, after Shaitaan and Rocketry, this will be like a breezy walk in the park. The film rolled earlier this month in Mumbai and will now continue in Kolkata.
