Govinda was born on 21 December 1963 in Virar, a suburb of Mumbai. His father Anand Ahuja has been an actor of the 40s, while mother Nirmala Devi was a famous classical singer. On Kapil Sharma's show, Govinda's wife Sunita said, "Govinda is a very good husband, but she wants a son like Govinda in the next life. You will not believe that Govinda washes his mother's feet and drinks her water."

Govinda made his Bollywood debut in 1986 with the film 'Love 86', but his first release was 'Ilzaam', which came out in the same year. After this, he got offers for 70 films continuously, which he did back-to-back. During this time, Govinda worked with almost all the leading actors of that time. According to media reports, out of these 70 films, 8 to 10 projects were closed, while 4-5 had to be abandoned due to date problems. After this, Govinda had 40 films.

Govinda demonstrated his acting ability in every film, which included emotion, action, dance and drama, but he got the most recognition for comic roles.
